Land-grabbing in the Heathrow area.

As travelling around London became more problematic due to the fact that more trucks were on the road due to railway cuts in the 1960's and the increased use of cars for leisure purposes, a solution had to be found.  The solution was the M25, an orbital motorway around London.  Unfortunately, it is not the solution they hoped it would be.  It has often been described as the largest car park in Europe due to the inordinate amount of time one can be on it without moving anywhere.  In our area, the M25 has four lanes in each direction and is the first motorway in the country to have variable speed limits in an attempt to regulate the traffic flow.
