Land-grabbing in the Heathrow area.

Following the war, the country's motorway system began to take shape.  The M4 carved its way through the south of the Borough in the 1960's.  Little consideration was given to matters such as noise or existing villages.  Houses were swept away and the motorway was built at ground level with little banking to protect the surrounding areas from sound.  If this motorway were to be built today, it would either be elevated or put into cuttings and adequate sound-protection would have been part of the initial design.
