Towards the end of the Second World War, the Air Ministry persuaded the War Government that a large bomber airfield would be required in the London area.  This was simply a ruse to grab land under the Emergency Powers in force at the time.  (The Journal of the Hayes & Harlington Local History Society, Issue 45, (Spring 1992)).  The village of Heath Row was wiped from the map and the airport we now know took shape.
